Prepare an Emergency Kit

Whether it is flooding, an ice storm or Pandemic Flu, having extra supplies on hand is one of the first things you need to do to be ready for an emergency. All levels of government from Federal down to local suggest you have at least three days worth of emergency water and food. A disaster sometimes strikes with little or no warning, and we can’t always “run out to the store” and get what we need.

Think first about the basics of survival: fresh water, food, clean air and warmth.
You should have three kits; Home, Evacuation, and Car.
Your Evacuation kit can be part of your home kit, but in a seperate bag or box that you can "grab-n-go" with.

"Grab-n-Go" Kit
Your portable kit can include: water, food, first aid supplies, a change of clothing and blanket or sleeping bag, emergency tools (like flashlights, radio, batteries), and special items for infants, elderly or people with disabilities. Keep these items in an easy-to carry container-such as a "action-packer", a large backpack, or a duffle bag.
