Action for Healthy Kids
Action For Health Kids is a nationwide initiative dedicated to improving the health and educational performance of children through better nutrition and physical activity in schools. This effort represents a response to our nation's epidemic of overweight, sedentary, and undernourished children and adolescents. Healthy schools produce healthy students — and healthy students are better able to learn and achieve their true potential.

Washington County is located in Zone 5 of Ohio Action For Health Kids.  The work of Ohio AFHK is guided by the following goals:
  • Expand Ohio schools' participation in the USDA School Breakfast Program.
  • Ensure healthy snacks and foods are available in vending machines, school stores and other venues within the school's control.
  • Ensure children have access to quality co-curricular physical activity programs, inside and outside the school day.
Zone 5 has been instrumental in providing school food service, physical activity, and physical education workshops throughout southeast Ohio.
