Rabies Information
Rabies is an infectious, viral disease that affects the nervous system of humans and other mammals. People get rabies from the bite of an animal with rabies. Any wild mammall, such as a raccoon, skunk, fox, coyote or bat can have rabies and transmit it to humans.
 
The Washington County Health Department investigates animal bite reports to assist in preventing the spread of rabies. All bites are required by law to be reported. On average, the Health Department investigates approximately 100 bites per year.
