Bureau for Children with Medical Handicaps
The Bureau for Children with Medical Handicaps is a tax-supported, state-administered program through the Ohio Department of Health. This program pays for medical expenses for children birth to age 21 who qualify medically and/or financially. The BCMH Program also provides a Public Health Nurse to apply for and coordinate services.
Participation in the Diagnostic Program does not require financial eligibility. The diagnostic program is used to rule out or establish a medical diagnosis.
If a child is diagnosed with a BCMH approved medical condition then financial eligibility is determined. Financial eligibility is based on the needs of the child and the adjusted gross income of the family. Families who have primary health insurance may still qualify for BCMH services.
BCMH Philosophy
BCMH assures that children with special health care needs and their families receive comprehensive care and services that are family-centered and community-based
